Crassula muscosa
Does not mind sun, but ideally placed in partial shade.
Water regularly and abundantly from spring to autumn. Ideally a few days after the substrate has dried out.
Tolerates low temperatures around freezing point, but is not hardy.
It has several different forms and subspecies, which you can also find in our shop. For example variegata, monstrosa, ssp. parvula and others.
Originally known as Crassula lycopoides and often called Watch Chain Plant. It is a plant that every avid grower knows well. This succulent beauty is also native to the island of Tenerife.
The plant is characterised by small leaves that grow close together and have a lush green colour, which can be affected by the intensity of sunlight. It branches naturally without any shortening of the stems. Because of its tendency to droop, it is difficult to keep the plants in an acceptable and compact form without frequent pruning. Old caraway trees may become woody. The overall height of this plant is between 15 and 40 cm.
The flowers are small and rather inconspicuous. They are bowl-shaped and light yellow-brown to brown. These flowers appear in summer and their overall appearance is not that distinctive.
It prefers a semi-shaded habitat, as it suffers in direct sunlight, which results in yellowing of the petals. However, its shape and colour are highly variable depending on the method of cultivation. The great thing about this plant is that it can be shaped into different forms by cutting it with scissors to achieve any look. I therefore recommend it especially to those who like to play with the shape of the plant and are looking for unusual possibilities.
