Crassula multicava variegata
The plant likes a sunny site, but can tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can tolerate -3,9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The soft and twisted leaves are decorated with attractive colouring. The creamy yellow around the edges of the leaves enlivens their dark green and the tiny dots add a fine detail. This is an unusual piece for the succulent collection.
Crassula multicava variegata, also known as Crassula multicava subsp. multicava variegata, is a variegated form of a succulent plant from South Africa. The specific epithet 'multicava' refers to the numerous, visible to the eye, porous openings on the leaves, called hydathodes.
The round dark green leaves are covered with small whitish spots. The edges are decorated with a delicate creamy yellow colour. In direct sunlight, the leaves turn an attractive pink around the edges. The leaves are soft to the touch, but succulent and grow on sturdy stems that are semi-flexed over time. The maximum height of the plant does not exceed 30 cm.
It produces small star-shaped flowers of a soft pinkish to white colour.
Beware of the first direct sun after winter, which can burn the plant. The succulent can be lightly fertilised with cactus and succulent fertiliser. This is an attractive collector's piece that will enhance any collection with its unusual foliage.
