Crassula marginalis
Place ideally in full sun or partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
A low-growing succulent suitable for hanging containers, for example. It grows rather wide and its carpet-like growth makes it suitable as an underplant for a succulent garden.
Crassula marginalis, known as Crassula pellucida subsp. marginalis, is native to the Western Cape province of South Africa, where this plant is usually found on rock outcrops and shaded moist places under rocks or in forests. It can also be traced under the names Crassula lineolata or Crassula profusa.
The small, fleshy green leaves turn yellow in the sun. They are heart-shaped and grow in pairs. The leaf diameter is usually about 1 cm. In the dry season, the plant puts out a large number of aerial roots, which help it to absorb moisture from the air, for example. Crassula is rather ground-hugging and grows to a maximum height of 15 cm, forming low carpets with an overhanging character.
It flowers between September and December and produces small white flowers.
All forms of this Crassula can be found in our shop. Specifically: Variegata, Rubra and Petite Bicolor. The plant grows quite fast and I do not recommend fertilizing it. Due to the nature of its growth it is suitable for hanging containers or as a base plant in a succulent garden.
