Crassula capitella Campfire variegata
Place ideally in a sunny position.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
Can tolerate -6.7 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The native Crassula capitella Campfire glows bright red in the sun, whereas the variegata shows only a limited display of this phenomenon and is mainly light green with whitish streaks.
Crassula capitella Campfire variegata is a similar form of the plant also known as Crassula Blaze or Crassula Flame. The original form has fiery red leaves. The name Campfire perfectly describes the vibrant colours of the leaves, which change from pale green to shades of yellow, orange and red in full sun.
Due to the colouring, white stripes are found on the leaves, especially along the edges of the leaves, and the leaves do not normally turn a fiery red colour but remain light green. In sunlight, it may turn slightly red. The plant grows up to 15 cm tall and rather wide, with weak, curled, propeller-like leaves. White or cream flowers appear in racemes on tall spikes in summer and autumn. However, flowering can cause the shrub to lose its compact shape and become taller. It is therefore advisable to cut off the emerging flowers.
The succulent does not need any fertiliser and can be replanted every few years. The variegated form grows a little slower than the Crassula capitella Campfire and both can be found in our e-shop. This is a rather interesting collector's piece that will surely impress the cactus collectors in your area.
