Crassula arborescens
The plant likes sunny habitats.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering. Water more frequently than other succulents.
It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The plant is characterised not only by its thick leaves, but also by its thick stem and branches.
Crassula arborescens, is also called Silver Dollar Plant. Its leaves resemble silver dollars. The epithet arborescens means tree-like.
Its grey-green leaves, with tiny dots and a waxy coating, turn almost white in summer and the edges of the leaves turn reddish-purple. Older leaves gradually fall off, revealing a thick trunk and strong, branching stems. In Africa, where it is native, it grows up to 1.2 metres tall.
Star-shaped flowers in white to pink appear in terminal racemes from spring to summer.
This undemanding plant is slow growing and with a little care can become a beautiful and long-lived jewel in your home. By pruning, the crown can be shaped to achieve the desired look.
