Cotyledon tomentosa Mediopicta
Plant likes sunny sites, can tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The variegated form of Mediopicta is caused by the loss of chlorophyll in the middle of the leaf.
Cotyledon tomentosa Mediopicta, called Bear's paws, is a succulent shrub with attractive, similarly coloured leaves. The original green form is native to South Africa. The variegated variant of Mediopicta is caused by the loss of chlorophyll in the centre of the leaf.
The leaves of this succulent are greenish-yellow and hairy, resembling bear's paws in shape and appearance. The lower leaves gradually dry out naturally and the carpels shave off. The plant has a thin woody stem and grows up to 30 cm tall. It is an attractive succulent shrub with densely branched stems.
Cotyledon tomentosa produces bell-shaped flowers that usually appear in early winter. Flower colour ranges from beige through various shades of yellow and yellow-green to almost orange. However, the panicled form of Cotyledon tomentosa Mediopicta tends not to flower.
It is slower growing than the basic green form and is characterised by an unusual type of paginated leaves. These attractive leaves make it a beautiful interior decoration. There, give the bear's paws plenty of warmth and light, ideally in a sunny window.
