Did you know?

This is a variegated form of Cotyledon orbiculata. It is distinguished by its more elongated coloured leaves and slower growth.

Cotyledon orbiculata Long Leaf variegata is a variegated form of Cotyledon orbiculata. The original form is native to the Richtersveld and adjacent coastal areas in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa and the Sperrgebiet in south-western Namibia.

The thick leaves are covered with a thick layer of wax, giving them a greyish colour with a green base. The edges of the leaves are edged with burgundy. The colour of the leaves changes during the season depending on the amount and intensity of sunlight, but especially on the difference between day and night temperatures. The thick leaves serve as a water reservoir, which allows the plant to survive even in times of drought. Their shape is somewhat more elongated than that of the original form. Cotyledon grows up to 15 cm tall and forms branched stems.

This form does not normally flower.

Cotyledon orbiculata Long Leaf variegata is a coloured form with more elongated leaves. This is a plant that was not very common in this country until a short time ago, but is gradually becoming a favourite of succulent growers and collectors.
