Together with others in the Bergeranthus genus, succulents are very similar to each other. These plants form a small genus. Our representative flowers very frequently and intensively.

Bergeranthus multiceps, formerly known as Mesembryanthemum multiceps, is a small succulent plant native to coastal areas of southern Africa. Here it grows in the wild on sandstone outcrops. The name 'multiceps' comes from Latin and means 'many-headed', referring to the crown of each base. The plant is characterised by its beautiful flowers, which open towards evening, and is drought tolerant. Together with 3-4 other plants of the genus Bergeranthus, they are similar to each other.

The plant forms a tight clump of upright, tapering leaves. The leaves are fleshy, green and triangular in cross-section. The plant has thick and bizarrely intertwined roots and the clump grows to a height of 8 cm.

The flowers appear on slender stalks from a short stem. The unopened buds are a beautiful orange colour. The flowers themselves turn yellow with a pink reverse and are up to 4 cm across. They bloom in summer and open in the evening.

Bergeranthus multiceps is an extremely hardy plant and is not yet widespread in the Czech Republic. Its main beauty lies in its dazzling yellow inflorescence, which in large numbers catches the eye from a distance.
