TIP for you:

This is a variant with deep red leaves, which are striking from a distance.

Anacampseros rufescens var. rubra, nicknamed Sand Rose, is a charming succulent plant with red leaves whose original form is native to South Africa. This variant differs from the classic form only in the colour of the leaves. According to this colour we find in the name rubra.

The fleshy leaves, spirally arranged along the stem, give the plant an elegant appearance. The white hairs between the leaves help it survive droughts by trapping water vapour from the air. In markets, some customers confuse them with wolly bugs. However, these are not pests, but part of the succulent itself. The upright or slowly creeping, branching stems grow up to 8 cm tall and form dense, low clumps.

The flowers, which appear on stems up to 10 cm long, range in colour from pink to pinkish-purple. It should be noted, however, that this variant does not flower as profusely as the classic form of Anacampseros rufescens.

Anacampseros rufescens var. rubra is an unpretentious and relatively hardy plant that is ideal for beginners. The succulent is best propagated by seed. Its decorative appearance, short stature and interesting colouring make it a great choice for succulent gardens.
