Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle
Ideally placed in full sun, but will tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. However, water only during the growing season.
It can tolerate -6.7 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The bulbous succulent has knotty, curled leaves. This particular cultivar, however, is even more curled than other species.
Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle is a cultivar of Albuca spiralis that has spirally curled leaves. It is probably a horticultural cultivar because the classic Albuca spiralis has leaves with glandular hairs, which this cultivar lacks. The succulent is said to grow in sunny plains, as well as in sparse woodland and scrubland. It is characterised by rapid growth and has more spiral leaves than the classical form.
The succulent leaves are green and up to 20 cm long. At the end of the growing season, the leaves curl attractively. The degree of curling of the leaf tips is influenced by the intensity of sunlight and the angle of incidence of the sun's rays during growth.
The plant is a bulb plant that flowers in summer. It produces one large central flower spike, which bears overhanging yellow and green flowers. Flowering usually takes place in summer.
This plant is characterised by winter growth and dies back in summer after flowering. However, if watering is not interrupted and the plant is provided with suitable conditions, it can grow and flower all year round. Albuca spiralis Frizzle Sizzle tends to grow and flower irregularly, depending on current conditions. Propagation of this plant is by sowing seeds. It stands out among other succulents with its twisted leaves and massive bulbs at first sight. Its hardiness in cultivation also gives the plant the confidence that it is definitely worth growing.
