Aichryson laxum
The plant is ideally suited to partial shade, but can also be placed in a sunny position.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The plant produces a huge number of yellow flowers. However, they exhaust the plant so much that it dies after flowering. It is therefore a good idea to pinch the flowers.
Aichryson laxum, also called Tree of Love, is a charming succulent plant with attractive green leaves. The apical rosettes of hairy leaves divide themselves to create a branched yet compact appearance. The purple-brown, forked stems give the plant an elegant structure and grow from a thin, fleshy cumin. The root system is shallow, similar to that of the closely related Aeonium. Aichryson laxum is characterised by rapid growth and grows to a tree-like shape, 20 to 40 cm tall.
This succulent produces an incredible number of yellow star-shaped flowers, but these can completely exhaust its growth. If the grower wants the plant to continue to grow (live) after flowering, it is advisable to pull off most of the flower stalks and leave only a few in the crown. In this case, Aichryson laxum will flower but not die. Even so, it is guaranteed to have enough flowers left to enjoy its appearance.
In nature, Aichryson usually lives as a biennial and dies after flowering. In domestic conditions, however, a little care and flower pinching will keep the plant alive longer.
Aichryson laxum is, however, a fairly undemanding plant. Other than flower trimming, which I recommend to keep it from dying, it requires no special care. It delights with beautiful foliage, an aesthetic stem and a flood of stunning yellow flowers.
