Aeonium Velour
Place ideally in full sun.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can tolerate -1.1 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
This is a cultivar resulting from a cross between Aeonium canariense and Aeonium arboreum Zwartkop. It was bred by Jack Catlin in 1976.
Aeonium Velour is a fascinating hybrid succulent plant that was created in 1976 by crossing Aeonium canariense and Aeonium arboreum Zwartkop thanks to Jack Catlin. It is a sibling of Aeonium Blushing Beauty. Unlike it, which turns red during the cold winter months, Aeonium Velour retains a consistent purple-purple colour in the apical parts of the leaves. There is also a cristate form of this plant.
It is characterised by large rosettes of spoon-shaped, dark purple to violet leaves with a beautiful velvety texture. During winter, the rosettes usually turn green with occasional purple tones on the outer leaves. The plant has bare, sturdy stems and can grow up to 80 cm tall, making it a small tree.
The plant is unlikely to flower.
The succulent can be fertilised, for example, with cactus and succulent fertiliser. Aeonium Velour is a beautiful plant with an attractive appearance that will become an ornament in any collection. Its shape, the velvety texture of its leaves and its purple colouring, which turns a stunning variety of shades in the sun, make it a very popular plant among growers.
