The epithet 'tabuliforme' refers to the shape of the rosette and translates as 'flat, table-shaped'.
Aeonium tabuliforme, also known as Dinner Plate Aeonium, is a succulent plant with an attractive flat rosette. The epithet "tabuliforme" refers to the shape of the rosette, which is flat, resembling a plate. Synonyms for this species include Sempervivum tabuliforme and Aeonium berthelotianum. This succulent grows on moist, north-facing cliffs and ledges at low altitudes in the Canary Islands. There is also a crested form with flat cumin and a beige variegated form.
The plant has light to bright green leaves that are closely pressed together. The leaves are thicker, lanceolate, rounded at the apex and ending abruptly in a short, sharp point. The edges are hairy. The leaves dry out in the heat to prevent excessive water loss. Aeonium tabuliforme forms a flat monocarpic rosette that can grow to a considerable size, up to 30 cm.
The star-shaped flowers tend to be pale yellow and appear in racemes on an upright stalk up to 60 cm high. It usually flowers in late spring.
It is an undemanding succulent plant that does not require specific light conditions. It is suitable for both sun and partial shade and will certainly not complain about light. At the same time, it is a highly decorative plant with a distinctive flat rosette.
