The name Mardi Gras refers to a colourful carnival, due to the variety of colours and variability of the leaves.
Aeonium Mardi Gras, with a name referring to the famous colourful carnival, is the result of a cross between the unnamed Aeonium and Aeonium Velour and boasts shimmering leaf colours that change dramatically.
The leaves combine three colours: lemon yellow, emerald green and pink to burgundy. The leaves are fleshy, spoon-shaped and form rosettes with a unique pattern. The colour of the leaves varies depending on the season and light conditions. In spring and summer the leaves are bright yellow with emerald green stripes. These turn pink to burgundy in autumn and winter, especially in bright light or lower temperatures. However, colouration is variable and timing or colour may vary. The succulent has a compact growth habit and grows to over 30 cm tall. The plant produces offsets from the main rosette and has a sturdy stem that keeps it upright. The leaves are up to 7 cm long and 2 cm wide and end in a short, sharp tip. The compact growth of the rosette is beautifully complemented by the sturdy woody stem.
The succulent is unlikely to flower.
It can be fertilized with a cactus and succulent fertilizer. Aeonium Mardi Gras is a beautiful and unpretentious succulent plant that will become an ornament to any collection. The changing colour of the leaves will provide a unique look all year round, and this spectacular succulent will impress in a different way each season.
