Aeonium Emerald Ice
The plant likes a sunny location, can tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Watering should be reduced in winter.
It can tolerate temperatures down to -6.7 °C in the short term.
The plant can be lightly fertilised and will do well if repotted in a larger pot in spring.
Aeonium Emerald Ice is a hybrid created by Renee O'Connell. The exact origin of this cultivar is not fully known, but one of its parents could be Aeonium tabuliforme.
The pale green is complemented by creamy white to off-white edges. The contrast is further enhanced by the fine teeth on the edges of the leaves. The leaves themselves grow in perfectly concentric rosettes, forming a fairly regular geometric pattern. The uniform rosettes can reach up to 30 cm in diameter.
Emerald Ice is, like much of the Aeonium genus, a monocarpic plant. This means that the plant dies after flowering. However, it blooms very rarely and before that it manages to form lateral offsets that allow it to live on.
The slow-growing succulent can be lightly fertilised with a cactus and succulent fertiliser. It will benefit from being transplanted into a larger pot in spring to give it room to grow. Aeonium Emerald Ice, with its attractive foliage and delicate pattern, stands out with its geometric rosettes internally arranged in ornamental patterns.
