Aeonium arboreum cristata
Succulent likes a sunny site, can tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can withstand temperatures as low as -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
As the branches age, they slowly lose their lower leaves. It is advisable to remove them to improve the appearance of the plant and protect it from pests.
Aeonium arboreum cristata is a succulent plant, with a crested growth form. The exact origin of this form is unknown.
Unlike the common Aeonium, which grows in rosettes, cristata forms ridge-like formations on its branches, ending in gnarled leaves. The pattern of the leaves varies with the season and the method of cultivation. The tiny green leaves have teeth around the perimeter and may show a striped pattern in the middle. The leaves tend to be smaller compared to the normal form. The branches gradually lose their leaves from below as they age. The succulent with flat, woody stem grows up to 50 cm tall.
The cristata form almost certainly will not flower.
The plant does not like fertilisation very much. Each specimen has its own unique shape due to its ridge-like growth. Some ridges grow steadily and retain their bizarre appearance, while others tend to revert to normal growth over time, which can be found in our shop under the name Aeonium arboreum Reversion. This succulent rarity will become an original addition to any succulent collection. Its unique flat shape will appeal to even the most demanding growers.
