Aeonium arboreum Atropurpureum
Prefers sun but can tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The plant changes colour twice during the year. It changes from shades of red-green to a deep red-purple.
Aeonium arboreum Atropurpureum, also known as Purple Rose, is an exceptional succulent with soft, long leaves ranging in colour from green to reddish-brown. The leaves form large rosettes and dry naturally from the bottom. I recommend removing old leaves gradually. The massive rosettes are found at the top of the sturdy trunk, which starts out as a thin stem and grows more massive with time. This Aeonium can grow up to 90 cm tall.
The bright yellow star-shaped flowers, which appear in late spring, arrange themselves in large pyramidal panicles to form grape-like flowers. However, this variety does not commonly flower here.
The leaves of Aeonium arboreum Atropurpureum change colour throughout the seasons. They range in colour from red-green to deep reddish purple. There are also different variants of this plant, such as the black-leaved version Aeonium arboreum Zwartkop or the beautiful crested form Aeonium arboreum Atropurpureum cristata. All these species can be found in our e-shop. This succulent is one of the most popular species and is a desirable addition to succulent collections.
