Adromischus trigynus, also known by the synonyms Adromischus nanus and Adromischus rupicola, is an atypical succulent native to the vast Cape region of South Africa. Its variability is reflected in the variety of types that this species offers growers. It usually grows in sheltered rock crevices in the northern parts of the Great Karoo.

The grey-green foliage tends to be brown mottled and often with a purplish maroon margin. The compactly arranged leaves are elliptic to rounded, usually concave above and more or less convex below with sharp margins. An interesting feature is the thickened base of the stem, which transitions naturally to the underground. Thanks to this adaptive feature, the leaves of the plant can cope with very long periods of drought. It is a dwarf succulent and reaches a maximum height of 5 cm.

Its flowers are tubular and appear on stems up to 35 cm long. Both the stem and the flowers are covered with a waxy coating. Flowering usually begins in late spring.

Adromischus trigynus is an undemanding succulent that lasts a long time without watering. It can be propagated from individual leaves. Adromischus trigynus is a spotted and undemanding succulent that is also suitable for travellers who can only manage very irregular watering. With its compact size and interesting leaves, it will be a highlight of any succulent collection.
