Adromischus cristatus Red
The plant likes a sunny habitat.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
Leaves with atypical shapes are a mixture of brown, red, greenish to pink. The darker edges also break up the uniformity and give the impression of overlapping colours.
Adromischus cristatus Red, a fascinating succulent plant with reddish leaves, is a form of the variable species Adromischus cristatus, native to South Africa.
The leaves are a sensuous mix of brown, red and sometimes pinkish colours. The upper edge of the leaves is usually darker, while the base turns green. The colour changes throughout the year in response to external factors. The surface of the leaves is firm and thick to the touch, with a waxy coating in places.
Winter loss of old leaves temporarily reduces the volume of the plant. It has a strong stem and rusty aerial roots which give the plant a distinctive character. It is a low-growing shrub that grows rather wide. The flowers are tubular, green with red and white tips and appear on stems up to 30 cm long.
The growth of this plant is slow, but with proper care, Adromischus cristatus Red will give you many years of enjoyment from its unique beauty. It can be lightly fertilised with cactus and succulent fertiliser, but this is not necessary. The shape of the leaves and their reddish-brown colouring, together with the variable nature of the colours, are the main advantages of the plant.
